The MOD LIGHTING appUpdated a few seconds ago
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the MOD LIGHTING app?
The MOD LIGHTING app lets you run your smart lights from your phone. Turn them on and off, dim them, move from warm to cool white, pick colours and effects on RGB smart lights, group lights so they change together, and set schedules.
Download it for iPhone from the App Store or for Android from Google Play. Search for MOD LIGHTING.
Which lights work with the app?
Smart versions only. A smart light has "(Smart)" or "(Smart Lights)" in its name and comes with the chip the app talks to. These are the smart lights we sell:
- Outdoor: Brook (Smart), Brooklyn (Smart), Gleam (Smart), Harper (Smart), Haylen (Smart Lights), Haylen RGB (Smart Lights), Luna Outdoor (Smart), Terri (Smart), Vetra (Smart)
- Indoor wall lights: Alba Sconce (Smart), Aurelius Sconce (Smart), Luna (Smart), Seraphine Sconce (Smart)
- Ceiling lights: Bryce (Smart), Celia (Smart), Chloe (Smart), Clara (Smart), Elara (Smart), Selene (Smart)
- Pendants: Alba Pendant (Smart), Aurelius Pendant (Smart)
- Chandeliers: Alba (Smart), Aurelius (Smart), Charlotte (Smart), Jana (Smart), Janet (Smart), Kasper (Smart), Seraphine (Smart)
Can I convert my regular Haylen or Haylen RGB to a smart light?
Yes. We swap the light's controller for a smart one, which comes with a new remote, and your light then pairs with the app. It means changing one part inside the light.
Send us your order number through our contact page and we'll send the right kit and price for your lights.
How can I tell if my light is a smart version?
Check your order confirmation. A smart light has "(Smart)" or "(Smart Lights)" in its name, for example "Haylen (Smart Lights)" or "Clara (Smart)". Not sure? Send us your order number and we'll check it for you.
What if my older light isn't compatible?
Only smart versions connect to the app. Your light keeps working with its remote as it always has. A regular Haylen or Haylen RGB can be converted (see above). For any other light, contact us and we'll go through your options.
SETUP & CONNECTION
How do I connect my light to the app?
- Put your phone on your home Wi-Fi, not mobile data. If your router shows two networks, choose the 2.4 GHz one, because the lights only join 2.4 GHz. Keep Bluetooth on, and stand next to the light with its wall switch on.
- Open the MOD LIGHTING app, sign in, and tap Pair a light on the Home screen (scroll down past any offers if you don't see it). Enter your Wi-Fi password when the app asks for it.
- When the app says it is searching, hold the pairing button in the middle of the remote for 5 to 10 seconds, until the light blinks, then let go.
- Stay next to the light until the app says it's paired. Most lights take about a minute.
Pair one light at a time, with your other lights switched off at the wall.
The app can't find my light. What should I do?
- Check that it's a smart version and that its wall switch is on.
- Start the search first. Hold the pairing button only once the app says it is searching; a light that was put into pairing mode earlier can be missed.
- Hold the button for the full 5 to 10 seconds, until the light blinks.
- Use the remote that came with that light, and stand next to it.
- If the light doesn't blink at all when you hold the button, contact us with your order number.
Should I use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?
Both, for different jobs. The app uses Bluetooth to find a new light while you pair it, so keep Bluetooth on. Once your light is paired, it joins your home Wi-Fi and you control it over Wi-Fi. If Bluetooth is off, the app can still search over Wi-Fi, but it can take up to two minutes.
TROUBLESHOOTING
My light won't pair with the app. What should I do?
- Start again from Pair a light, and hold the pairing button only when the app says it is searching.
- If the app found your light and then says "It didn't join", hold the pairing button again until the light blinks before you tap Try again. A light that has been blinking for a while may not be found again.
- Check that you chose your 2.4 GHz network.
- On an iPhone, if pairing stops at Joining twice: sign in on an Android phone or tablet with the same email and pair from there. Your light then shows on your iPhone too.
- Still stuck? See "Still stuck? Send us the tech details" below.
No lights in the app, or lights I had before are missing
Your lights stay with the account they were first set up on. If the app says "No lights yet" but your lights were set up before (in the old app, on another phone or with another email), sign out (You › Sign out) and sign in with the email you first set them up with. The sign-in code goes to that mailbox.
Setting up for the first time? Any email works.
Please don't pair your lights again under a new email. If you can't get into the original email, contact us and we'll help.
Can someone else in my home use the lights?
Yes. They install the MOD LIGHTING app on their phone and sign in with the same email you use. The sign-in code goes to that email address, so they'll need you to pass it on.
My light keeps going offline. Why?
- Keep the wall switch on. A light switched off at the wall shows as offline in the app.
- If one light keeps dropping while the others stay online, switch it off at the wall for 10 seconds and back on.
- If it still drops, contact us with the tech details (see below) and we'll look at that light for you. Please don't remove it from the app first.
- If all your lights drop from time to time, they may be at the edge of your Wi-Fi. A 2.4 GHz extender or mesh point near them usually steadies the connection.
The app is crashing or not opening
- Close the app and open it again.
- Make sure it's updated to the latest version.
- If it keeps happening, uninstall and reinstall it. Your lights stay on your account: sign in with the same email and they'll all be there.
My light isn't responding after pairing
- Make sure the wall switch is on and the app shows the light as online.
- If it's offline or slow to respond, check the Wi-Fi signal where the light is (see "My light keeps going offline" above).
Still stuck? Send us the tech details
The app can copy a short line of technical details that shows us exactly where things stopped. It has no passwords in it.
- On the screen where pairing failed: tap Show tech details, then Copy details.
- For a light that's already in the app: open the light, then Light settings › Details › Copy details.
Paste it into a message to us through our contact page, with your order number, and we'll take it from there.
